Messenger doesn’t open on iphone6 - goes immediately to black screen

Why won’t messenger open anymore on my iphone6?

I click on the app or on Facebook chat and after the first home screen opens (plain white screen) it immediately goes to black screen!

Been happening since this past weekend.

Messenger works fine on my laptop though.

I think there was an iOS update on the weekend and wondering if that messed it up????

What can I do?

People have suggested i delete the app and reinstall but I’m too afraid since it says ALL DATA will also be deleted! I don’t want to lose any conversations, pics, videos, etc in those chats!!!
