All my books in iBook disappeared.

I had downloaded about a dozen books from the free iBooks catalog but today they are all gone. That includes the Winnie the Pooh and iPad user guide.
Does anyone know why/what/how this happened.

I hesitate to use iBooks now until I find out if they are going to disappear on a regular basis.

Thanks for any info anyone has.

Oh Apple Apple, why do you hurt us so much.

2 updates ago you stopped us from using your devices to monitor Wireless Networks. As an RF engineer that hurt and I subsequently cancelled my developer agreement as my tools no longer worked.

Today I learn that you have removed all my personal and business documents. No explanation, just gone.

It looks as though you are trying to force us to sink our pdf's and other documents to the web, why would we, they are private and intellectual property. Do I now have to carry yet another competitor device in order to carry my work around with me??

Oh Apple, please consider those of us that have been with you for years and invested literally thousands of pounds in your equipment. If you keep removing our capability and now data, just so you can force users to put personal data on your web infrastructure, you are sorely wrong and will no dout result in us seriously considering if we have the right device at the next upgrade.

Yours, very frustrated

Like the users preceding me in theis forum and many others, I could not see my large and valued collections of documents, journals and articles on the stunning new app iBooks from my iPad, MacbookPro nor iPhone. I was quite distraught as I had trusted this app and aple with my unique library carefully sorted into "Collections"

In iTunes, Books had disappeared from the sidebar as well. I tried every trick I found on the forums and none regenerated my data.

Never again will I trust Apple. It makes me too vulnerable to the idiocy of grandiose nerds.

There is a happy ending however.

Going to Music>iTunes>Books folder i found them again. Anyway most of them. After carefully copying the folder into another location so apple cant destroy it, I dropped the folder onto the app on my MBPro and they appeared there, even in the Collection I had allocated. Phew. Still havent appeared in my nominally iCloud synced phone or pad but i live in hope, and gratitude to the gods of iT.

It appears that just like Podcasts, Apple has wrecked synch in another application and how it used to work in iTunes.

My Setup - iPad and iPhone with iOS 7, Desktop is Mac Mini with Maveriks, and iBooks/iTunes. However I live in NZ, so the iBooks store used to have almost no content, and now that it does, it way over priced and still full of DRM, so I use Calibre to manage my books.

iOS 7 broke its integration with Calibre so I cant download books directly to the iBooks app anymore. But Calibre lets you start a web server, so I get my book into ibooks by browsing to open the book, then Open in iBooks. All good, until my phone synchs with iTunes and the book dissappears.

What I have since found is the book is being added into iTunes, but I have synch "marked books" only selected, and as the book is new and not marked to be synched, it gets removed from the iOS devices on the next synch. GRRRRRRRRRR!!! This is not at all friendly behaviour. If the Frikken book is open on my device DON'T DELETE IT WITHOUT ASKING!!!!!!!, or if the book was loaded into iTunes from the device, mark it to synch unless I say otherwise! Jeez Apple, it's like you have given this synch process over to a young 18 year old intern developer with no frikken experiance!

I am so hacked off with Ibooks. This same problem has happened to me and I simply don't have the will to back up everything, redownload, sync, whatever you're supposed to do, it takes ages. Somehow 3 of my many titles still appear, but without any of the copious notes I make on every book I read and highlighted text gone. I am a writer and use these books to earn my crust. Time is money, too. I spent four hours one day on these silly forums trying to get my books back. The sense of hopelessness, panic, frustration and indignation reduced me to tears.

So I learnt my lesson. I have gone back to buying books from the store - I will always have them, I can locate them on a shelf in a second and half, I can open them just like that, my notes never disappear and I can also give them to someone else for free.

New technology is not always better. It's time someone said this loud and clear.

Very disappointed with Ibooks. The kids use it to play games on now and I am left thinking about all the wonderful lifetime of books I could have bought for £369, or whatever huge sum the Ipad cost me in the first place.

Similiar to me on my iPad2:-

  1. Lost ALL my books - over 15 GB! - in iBooks in all of my about 100 categories!
  2. It still appears on my iMac in ITunes folders
  3. And most frustration was that an actual "back up now" did not recover anything

Scrap in the surrounding of "Apple culture" is tremendously inaccaptable - sic ! ! !

This so far I was only aware of Microsoft sh...

I just updated to Mavericks about two nights ago, I was excited to find iBooks sitting right in my dock. When I open the app the first time, it was fine, every single books I downloaded from my iTunes account was there, iBooks display book that downloaded already or still in iCloud. However, as quickly I put a new ePub from my computer, all of the other books displayed on book shelf were gone!!! Therefore, I came up here and look for a solution.

Fortunately, I find a fix on my own. I have CleanApp v3 installed, so I just drag iBooks into CleanApp, delete the com.apple.ibooks.plist (not the iBooks itself). When I reboot iBooks, all the books I purchased is there! The only ePubs didn't restore were the ones that didn't purchase from iTunes, but that's OK, I have those ones backup on my Mac.

I've just spent two days trying to get my books to STAY on my iPad Mini. Most of my books are not purchased from the iTunes store, but have been accumulated from a variety of sources, such as the Gutenberg Project, etc. I used the iTunes program on my laptop to correct the sorting info and wanted to reload them back onto the iPad so they would show up in the correct book order within a series. When I attached the iPad, there was an update to the software, which I allowed to be installed.

Now, iTunes will, WHILE I WATCH, keep resetting to "sync selected books" when I keep selecting "Sync All Books." It will start to sync (680 books total) and I can watch the books arriving in iBooks during the sync. It would stop long before it got through all 680 books. For a little while, I'll be able to scroll past a bunch of book titles (nowhere near even 100, never mind 680) but after a while, the count will drop down to about 50. I have also tried allowing it to sync "selected books" and watched the 30 or so selected books arrive, then disappear from the library on the device. 😟 I am not in a wireless environment unless I'm at work, and I'm doing this at home.

According to the iTunes directory listing for the iPad, I have about 300 synced books and the rest are in the directory but not synced (there's still a timing circle showing to the side that would fill in during the sync process). But only a very few of them actually show up on the iPad itself.

This is driving me crazy. The ability to load books to the iPad from a variety of sources is why I bought it, instead of a competitor. If they don't FIX this, I'll never buy another.

Today all my books and pdf files in iBooks were gone.

A Preceding synch from iTunes with my PC deleted everything. The library on the ipad was empty then.

this is even more annoying knowing that I neither updated the os on the ipad nor changed any settings on the PC. This is unreliability at its worst!

as a poor affected user you have to try recover what has been lost.

either apple improves its service quality or opens its system for better and more reliable 3rd party sw.

All my books in iBook disappeared.
