Boot Mac OS on external drive
Hi! So on my Macbook I use some heavy apps such as Logic Pro x and Final Cut Pro x. Now I don't have enough storage anymore bc of these apps and the video's I need to edit.
I've heard something like that you can use an external drive as a bootdisk. I searched a little bit on how to do that but I'm just scared that I would buy lots of things for the external drive as bootdisk and that it doesn't work.
So I have a few questions:
How can I use my external drive as bootdisk?
What do I need to use for that? Low budget please.
And if u use an external drive as a bootdisk, can I still work with all the apps that are on my MacBook or is it just the files of my external drive that I can use?
And what is it about the different MacBook client and server operating system? I've heard things like High Sierra and stuff but I don't really know what this means and will this still be the same system on my external disk?
I already have an external disk, but when I plug it in to my MacBook I can only watch the files on my Mac but that's it. I can't transfer any files which is so stupid. What can I do about that? Do I really need to pay for another disk? If so, which one do I need to use?
And last, do I have to pay attention before using an external drive as a boot disk? Or could there be problems?
Here is the information you might need to answer my question about my MacBook:
- MacBook Pro 13-inch 2019 Two Thunderbolt 3ports
- processor: 1,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
- bootdisk: Macintosh HD
- MacOS Catalina
- Flash-storage: 121GB
Thank you!
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
