Battery Health Management - Not everyone is clear

Hi,

I use MacBook Pro everyday, and it is great. I love the new "Battery Health Management" feature. I am sure it is going to improve longevity of my battery.

I know that, this feature

  • Reduces the peak charging capacity (say 85% of possible full capacity)
  • Thus ensures that battery doesn't charge beyond 85%
    • If someone uses third party tools, such as coconut battery, it will show that "State of the health is 85%" although, in reality battery health should be near to 100%
  • Because of battery chemistry, stopping the charging at lower point, must help in battery longevity

However, when I see online forums like reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookpro/) many people are not very clear about this feature. Everybody talk about taking their NEW MBPs to Apple store and they want to change their battery when they are under warranty and/or AppleCare.

I think Apple should produce a white paper on their website indicating that, current behaviour of "Battery Health Management" is as expected and unless battery peak capacity is reduced below XX% percentage, nobody should be worried.

Is there anyone here who can this to Apple?

By giving clear technical information, we can save many batteries being replaced. This will save cost to Apple, more importantly, this will help environment.

Aravind
