Apple TV remote and tv

My tv is not responding to the remote. We plugged and unplugged, held menu and left and right button, got a new battery and finally did a reset. Still nothing. I got the remote app and it doesn’t see the tv- maybe because we have to reset WiFi but I can’t get in to do that. Suggestions?
