I'm having diffculty finding a straight answer to this. In Catalina, can I rename the two volumes? This appears to be possible in Disk Utility. What are the consequences of renaming? I already have generated backups with Time Machine.

You can rename your disk in recovery mode. Shut down your computer, and when you turn it back on hold down Command+R. Open Disk Utility and you can probably rename it. Backups shouldn't be affected, but you may need to erase your computer.
Everything will be affected. The path to every single file will change. You really want to do that?
In Disk Utility in standard mode I see the option to rename the HD. Looks exactly like the Finder does when a file or folder name is changed.
I assume this is how to change the HD name. But consequences? What is affected by a name change of the startup disk? ? Time Machine backups? Anything?
Can Macintosh HD be renamed in Disk Utility? What are the consequences?
