Apple TV 4K requires “restart” to establish Ethernet connection...

Recently upgraded to Apple TV 4K from an older model. All the Apple TV was connected via ethernet and had no connectivity issues. New Apple TV (4K) does not recognize the Internet connection when it turns on. Only after manual “restart” does it recognize the ethernet connection and then performs flawlessly.

We do use a static IP to the router, then DHCP within the network. The device is connected via Ethernet pass-through from a ubiquiti AP pro and then a small ubiquiti switch.

Issue persists after:

  1. assigning static IP via router and in Apple TV 4K settings.
  2. reset of Apple TV 4K to factory settings
  3. software is up to date
  4. Bypassing the ubiquiti WiFi access point & switch so the ATV is connected directly to router.

Hi chomnom,

It sounds like your new Apple TV is not automatically connecting to the internet via the ethernet cable. We can help get you pointed in the right direction for support.

If you haven't already, you can test your network by going to Settings > General > Network > Test Network. The results of the test may help determine the cause of the issue.

We'd also test with just Wi-Fi if you are able to. This can help determine if the issue is only related to the ethernet connection or your connection in general.

You can find more steps that may help here:

We hope this helps.

Take care!
