please open messages on your Mac

click messages (top menu) -> preferences

open iMessage tab and enable your account.

A Few Thoughts:

• Boot into Safe Mode: m

Hold Down the shift key upon boot, and see if you can get the messages working. In Safe Mode items start by default and many caches are set aside and fixed.

With much fixed, reboot and try another normal login. If there still are issues...

• Reset the SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for network connections) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM. It might take up to three tries for each. So, be certain you have the time to perform these two resets.

See where things go from there.
