Laptop battery is drained on connecting to LG 29WK500 ultra-wide monitor

I recently purchased a 16" MBP and a LG ultra-wide monitor. On just using the laptop I could get 10-12 hours of battery backup. However, on connecting the laptop to the screen, the battery drains at a significantly faster rate.

It takes just takes an hour to drain the battery from 100 to 70%.

I am not sure what exactly is the issue.

The monitor has its own power source.

I have connected my laptop with the screen using a type-c adapter.

Hey Atharva95!

It sounds like the LG monitor is using more power than expected from your MacBook Pro. We've got a solution to this!

If a Mac accessory needs more power or is using too much power might assist you to identify what's going on and how to solve it.

Another good step would be to reset the SMC or System Management Controller: How to reset the SMC of your Mac This helps to resolve issues related to powering the Mac and the battery.

Should it continue after those steps, do you use a driver for your monitor? Do you have the most updated drivers from the manufacturer?

Take care!
