Open Windows on MacBook Air Slide Away From Desktop

On MacBook Air I’ve somehow changed a setting so that when the mouse slides off an active window, all windows disappear/slide off to the side, instead of remaining open on desktop. How do I return this to normal where all open windows remain on desktop?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Fran Leibowitz,

Thanks for that additional information. It sounds like you may have enabled a hot corner. This is a setting that can activate certain features like a screen saver and showing the desktop.

"On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Desktop & Screen Saver, then click Screen Saver.

Click Hot Corners."

Once there if any of those options show "desktop" that's probably what is causing your problem. You can disable this feature by choosing "-" from the drop down.

Use hot corners to start the screen saver on Mac

Hi there Fran Leibowitz,

We understand you're experiencing an issue with your app windows disappearing when you move the mouse off an app, and we'd like to see if we can assist.

It sounds like you may be activating the show desktop gesture. Learn more here: Use Multi-Touch gestures on your Mac

Specifically, this is the gesture that may be causing this:

"Show desktop

Spread your thumb and three fingers apart to show your desktop."

Cheers!
