Errors - Sync with Google Drive

Hi everyone,

I have installed Google Drive file stream on my Macbook Air, to make sure that I can see a selected amount of files 'offline' using Finder (I use Google Drive for my company, together with the rest of our team).

There seems to be a (very annoying) bug for some time already (a few years?). I create shortcuts in my Finder's 'Favorites' to the most important files of my Google Drive. And every few weeks all the shortcuts are deleted, meaning I have to find every file manually again. In addition, if this occurs at the moment that I have a Powerpoint file open, all the images in the powerpoint presentation are magically removed from the file.

To me it seems as if Google Drive is cut off my MacBook for a few seconds and is then reinstalled. Creating a sort of default mode of all of my settings and open files.

I am almost reaching the point to damage my Macbook if this happens again, so the time has come to get help from you guys.

Thanks in advance, I hope someone is able to help me out!

Hello Meuleman,

We want you to be able to find your offline files as expected. It sounds like the issue is only when using favorites with the Google Drive documents, is that right? If so, when checking your Security & Privacy Settings are you seeing the app has full Disk access?

If needed, the guide here can help you double-check:

Control access to your files and folders on Mac

Also, you mentioned they disappear every few weeks. Are you able to view if updates for the app were applied during that time frame, or if any sync changes were made to your Google Drive account?

Keep us posted, and we'll continue to help.

Best!
