Cannot Register a non-Apple Subscription in Free Apple News

I have digital subscriptions to the Chicago Tribune and the Washington Post. I am not a subscriber to Apple News+ but I use the free Apple News. Apple News “remembers” my Tribune subscription but does not allow me to register my Post subscription. That is probably because I had a trial subscription to the Post through Apple but cancelled it when I found a better one-year deal directly with the newspaper. I cannot edit or delete the cancelled Post subscription in iPad Settings. I keep getting pop ups asking if I want to renew the Apple subscription and there is no way to get rid of it. Does anyone know a magic trick?

Hello Pipesdma,

It sounds like you are having trouble signing in using your Washington Post subscription, however the Chicago Tribune subscription seems to be working fine. It seems the Washington Post has a specific process to sign in, check out this link for support.

Thanks for trying, but the info was not helpful at all. I am not trying to sign in with an Apple account, and there is nothing in the above Apple News article about providing a non-Apple subscription when using Apple News.

Because I once had a Washington Post subscription that I purchased through Apple, the expired subscription causes a popup to appear every time a Washington Post story is highlighted or selected. The popup asks if I want to renew. I can then indicate that I am a Washington Post subscriber. (Already have a subscription?) When I click that link my Washington Post subscription is found with my id and I'm asked if I want to continue. The trouble is, I have to do that EVERY TIME I USE APPLE NEWS. It does not remember that I have a subscription outside of Apple billing.

However, the same thing does not happen with Chicago Tribune. I do not have a subscription that I purchased through Apple, but since there is no previous Apple subscription (apparently), Apple News remembers that I have a subscription and never asks me again.
