iphone message notifications sound stop when I am near my laptop

my iphone used to make a notification sound for my messages regardless of if I was near my laptop or not. Only if I had my Apple watch on it would send notifications to Apple Watch

to be clea: There is no issue with receiving notification. Only issue with the sound of notifications for text messages.

Since several days iPhone only makes notification sounds for messages when either laptop BT is off or iphone BT is off. Or when I am away from the laptop (in the backyard somewhere).

No headphone or speakers are connected to iphone.
iphone is not in DnD mode.
Messages on iphone is set to make a sound for every message, notifications in iphone are set to not deliver quietly.
iPhone and Macbook Pro both have Handoff turned off. (just did that part this morning)

If I log off from messages on MBP, then iphone notification are all normal again.

Seems to me that there is something going on with notification handoff between 3 devices.

Apple? whatsup?
