Touch ID not working

Touch ID isn't working to unlock my MacBook Air. It recognizes my fingerprint when I enter it into my settings, but when I need to unlock my device it doesn't recognize my print and has me enter my password. Is something wrong with my settings?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Touch ID works when waking from sleep. If your Mac is booting up, you need to enter your password to unlock the Mac, for security reasons. Similarly, every few days it will ask for your password even if you do not reboot.
