Activation Lock

I let my 10 yo nephew use my iPhone X for a couple months. It was just an extra phone laying around so Why not!? It was cleared out and wasn’t hooked up to my Apple ID. So he set it up under his Apple ID and he was happy. Few months later his mom bought him a new phone and he gave mine back. Great! He cleared it out and did the factory reset. Didn’t think anything of it. That’s been a few months ago. Now today I just tried to set it up again and it’s stuck on the Activation Lock. Wanting me to sign into his Apple ID. WTF. I called my now 11yo nephew and he doesn’t have a clue as to what his apple id or password was. So now I have a useless iPhoneX. You’ve gotta be kidding? I’m the only owner of this phone and that should be on record through AT&T but they say they can’t help. That’s BS. Apple needs to turn this activation lock setting tf off.

Activation Lock is a theft prevention feature which requires the Apple ID and Password of the original user who set the lock. Without that information, you will not be able to use the device. We cannot help and Apple will only help if you can produce the original receipt clearly showing the serial number. Check these links...

Your nephew would have been very foolish not to have reused his (iPhone X) Apple ID on his new iPhone. Or... his mom got him an Android phone and he abandoned his Apple ID.

On the "Activation Lock" screen there is some fine print that gives a hint as to what the Apple ID's email address is. It will look like "a*******4@icloud.com" or "l*******d@h********.com". With any kind of luck, this will spur your nephew to remember his Apple ID's name and password.

Good luck.
