I purchased an iPhone 7 for my son and the previous owner neglected to tell me there was an activation lock. Her son forgot his Apple ID password and because I don’t know his Apple ID I cannot takeoff the activation lock. What do I do?

Hello ~ Only the original owner can remove the activation lock. They can recover the Apple ID password and then remove it but they must do it as you cannot. I would send the device back for a refund. Take a look here:

Only the previous owner can remove the lock. The previous owner should go to iforgot.apple.com and unlock the device; that could take some time.
