iPod shuffle is not recognised by MacBook Pro and Mac

I recently bought an iPod shuffle on eBay so I could listen to music with the nostalgia but ever since I bought it, I haven't been able to set it up on my MacBook and Mac. I read multiple articles but nothing helped until I read one article that said I might be using the wrong charger/connector. So, I bought a new one that arrived today and my computers still do not detect it. Is there any solution to this problem?
