Mac mini 2018 display problem with 2nd monitor

I have a MacMini 2018 running 10.15.6 with a TS3plus from Caldigit.

Connected to the TS3plus are two Acer T272HUL monitors at 2660x1440, 60Hz. (one with the Caldigit usb c to displayport adapter plugged into the TS3plus, one via the displayport connector on the TS3)

When I boot the mini with both displays connected only one screen will show a picture. The 2nd will remain black (unrecognized).

When I unplug the Caldigit adapter and boot the mini and then plug the adapter in I can get both monitors to work.

Obviously this workaround is rather undesirable.

Is there anything I can do to make the mac recognize the 2nd screen without constantly having to un- and replug the monitor?

Try plugging the Displays directly into the Mac Mini's Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports.

see > Connect multiple displays to your Mac mini (2018) - Apple Support

plug one display in on Bus 0 and plug the other display in on Bus 1
