iPhone 6 and backups

My iPhone 6 (IOS 12.4.8 - the latest for it?) will not (no longer?) connect to my iMac (Catalina 10.15.6), and the appropriate updated iTunes. I still would like to backup my iPhone to may iMac, but I have no luck trying. Am I missing something (tried re-starting both devices)? Or is the elderly iPhone no longer compatible?

MacOS Catalina no longer uses iTunes! You are likely looking at its Music app.

Thank you again. The USB tree indeed shows the iPhone, both systems (iPhone 6 and iMac) have the latest systems that they respectively support, but still the Finder does not show the iPhone.

Form the good news dept.: a slightly older MacBook Air did recognize the phone and I was able to do a backup there. In addition, a good friend (hearing of my distress) gave me an iPhone 8 with the advice, I should discontinue the IP 6 right away. So be it.

Thank you for help and support.
