iMovie stuck in 720p

iMovie won't let me edit or share in anything greater that 720p.

I have tried opening a new library, deleting and re-installing iMovie and importing a 4k seed clip as per previous discussions found here but not luck.

From the moment I create a new movie and click on settings, the format is stuck in 720p.

Aghhhh!

Any help would be appreciated.

First, let's check to make sure that you are setting the project resolution correctly. iMovie sets the project resolution at that of the first video (not photo) clip that is the very first clip placed into a newly created project. So if you import a 4k 30fps clip into a newly created project as the first clip, that is the resolution and frame rate that will be set and will show in the Settings dialogue box. Also, iMovie supports 4k 30fps but not 4k 60 fps.

If the above procedure does not correctly set the resolution then try deleting preferences: To do that open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if you can set the resolution.
