iMovie problem on iPad Pro 11inch 2020

Hello,

hopefully someone can help me with this problem.

Yesterday I took delivery of my brand new iPad Pro, which I am delighted with, however, when I click on iMovie it says that I need to purchase it from the App Store, which is fine so I go into the App Store but all it shows is the download circle with the stop square in the middle, no option to buy.

I have tried stopping the non-existent download but to no avail.

I have also tried logging out of the App Store and also downloaded the latest iPadOS update.

Has anyone else ever encountered this problem?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Ps I am typing this on the magic keyboard case and it is fantastic! I honestly didn’t think I would find it as useful.

Returningtoapple,

Thanks for confirming. We'd recommend deleting the app from your iPad completely and then attempting to download from the App Store once again. You can find the steps for deleting apps from your device here: How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch Once deleted, you can use the steps from the article in the previous post to fully redownload.

Let us know how it turns out.

Hi Jeremy_v,

Thanks for replying, I feel very stupid!

It would appear to have worked, I did try deleting the other day before posting here, but stupidly thought when I held down on the icon and it said “edit home screen” or whatever it says I thought it meant I couldn’t delete it but merely move it around!

It doesn’t appear also that I need to purchase iMovie as it’s downloading without any payment required.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Like my name suggests, I haven’t used Apple products for a little while and have already forgotten a few things!

I will stop typing now and go and sit in the corner!

Thanks again.

Hi Returningtoapple,

Congratulations on your new iPad. It sounds like you're having an issue downloading iMovie. We'd like to assist. Is this the only app you're having an issue downloading? If so, when the App Store is force closed and re-opened are you still seeing the download circle or does the icon to download change to a cloud or "Get"? If needed, this article has the steps to force close the App Store and test: How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue continues, are you seeing that iMovie is listed in your purchases? These steps will help you check: Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books

Keep us posted on the results.

Cheers!

Hi i_rina,

Thanks for your reply, I will do my best to answer your questions.

  1. Yes, I have managed to download pages and numbers, also I started downloading google maps and the download began immediately.
  2. I have force closed the App Store (and everything else while I’m using the machine all the time, never leave apps in the background) the download circle with square in the middle is always present, this is what is baffling to me, although, prior to downloading pages etc they were also displaying the circle? But began downloading after a few minutes, iMovie hasn’t.
  3. As far as I know I’ve never purchased iMovie, I had it on my 2008 iMac but never purchased it then either. I am quite happy to buy iMovie but can’t even download it at the moment.

I must admit this problem does rather have me scratching my head wondering what to do.

Thanks again.
