screen black due to brightness becoming zero

Hi,

I have macbook 2017 and while working, my brightness keeps becoming zero. It is as if somebody presses the F1 (for reducing brightness to zero). I have to press F2 to increase it , only to see it go back to being blank. This is happening pretty frequently and I have tried SMC reset, changing display setting to automatically set brightness level to manual and automatic. These haven't worked.

Open Keyboard Viewer, see if F1 highlights itself when this happens.
