Disk first aid - error: cross check

When running disk first aid on my drive i am receiving the following error:

error: Cross Check : Mismatch between extentref entry reference count (4) and calculated fsroot entry reference count (0) for extent (0x173e47e4 + 4)

The error repeats itself many times, then disk first aid completes and says the disk is ok.

Being Mr Tidy i'd like to fix it...

Apple has helped with this same issue in the past but now that my warranty is expired i cannot get technical support. From memory they provided some code for the console.

Does anyone have any insights on how to repair the issue?

Disk Utility is very hesitant to make ANY changes to the drive it is running from.

If you did not already do so, boot into recovery mode, invoke Disk Utility from there, and attempt the Repair/First-Aid.
