Disable Apple Pay for qr scanner

This has been mentioned before, but the Arriva m-ticket app allows you to buy a monthly ticket and has a QR code that you present each time you get on.. unfortunately the scanner for the QR codes is also the Applepay and nfc scanner, and by the time the phone is near it, it’s picked up the Apple Pay and the drop down has covered up the QR code screen.. can take me a few minutes to get lucky and get scanned before the Apple Pay appears..

is there an option to temp disable the nfc? Will flight mode do it?
