I can hear my recording on Garageband but can't see it

When I record something I can't physically see the recording, but when I play it back I can hear it. The section on the screen where I'm supposed to see the recording is just black. I have the most recent update of Garageband too

MacBook, macOS 10.14

Why isn't GarageBand recording sound? GarageBand is not recording sound for me. I have tried all of the input and output combination, I have checked preferences, and made sure the track isn't muted, but it looks like the sound isn't even registering. I cannot hear upon playback, but it also doesn't display a waveform for the sound — it appears to be empty. I have included a screenshot of this. I would appreciate your help.

No audio playback despite recording I recorded a podcast episode with my mic that shows it was recording, but now that I attempt playback I can't hear the track. I've tried changing my output device but none work. When I input a different track I can hear it, but not this one recorded in Garageband. I've recorded many episodes before and never had this problem. I've tried changing the main volume as well and it doesn't show anything. I exported too and still the whole mp3 was silent. Is there anything I can try?

Using Garage band cannot hear audio unless disconnect external mic Everything works as it should except I have to disconnect usb enxternalmic to hear what has been recorded what am I not doing right please its such pain to unplug to hear what I have recorded/ regards Paul
