Change screen time passcode doesn’t work

The instructions to change your screen time password if you’ve forgotten it don’t work. I select “forgot pass code,” enter my Apple ID and password, and it takes me BACK to the change passcode screen (asking me to enter “old pass code”) but ADDS an additional failed passcode attempt. My iPhone is up to date. What’s going on?

Hello Apple Support and Apple Community,

I am attempting to erase my old iPhone 7. In Settings>General>Erase all content and settings, and to proceed it asks for my 6-digit general passcode, then for my 4-digit SCREEN Time passcode. I don't remember setting the 4-digit screen time passcode, and when I try to reset it, I enter an endless loop of requests for my Apple ID and password, then back to the link to reset my screen time passcode, then back to the request for my Apple ID and password.

My goal is to erase my iPhone 7. I need to get out of this endless loop.

Please help! Thanks

I'm having the same problem (providing the screen time password is a required step to erase my iPhone 7 before I sell it. I don't know the screen time password- i KNOW my general access password- the problem is the screen time password that neither my husband or I remember setting). When I follow the prompts to reset the screen time password, I get stuck in an endless loop of requests for my Apple password, then back to the reset option link. The first time I reset the screen time password, I was able to create a new 4-digit password-but when I entered it to proceed with erasing my iPhone, it didn't work.

The previous writer who mentioned feeling enraged was exactly right. This should be a simple task! I need to erase this phone, I have a new one, I don't have much time and there is a glitch which I can't solve. Please help.

  • Connect your iPhone to the computer you normally sync with.
  • Open iTunes. If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer that you’ve synced with. Or try Other Methods mentioned below.
  • iTunes will automatically sync your iPhone and create a backup. If it doesn’t, sync your iPhone with iTunes.
  • After the sync is complete, restore your iPhone.
  • When iTunes asks to set up your device, choose “Restore from iTunes backup.”
  • Select your iPhone in iTunes and choose the most recent backup.
