Hello I was wondering is someone could help me out.
By default read receipts are turned off on my phone, which is what I prefer.
What I'm trying to do is to get only one contact to have read receipts.
I can't seem to make this happen. Whenever the conversation is deleted read receipts defaults back to off. I need to turn this on each time. I can't understand how to have the contact be enabled for read receipts and not the conversation.
Anyone know how to fix this?

In other words, you would like to notify exactly one contact when you’ve read her/his iMessage.

Yes, that's correct.
Why is it then that I can select the conversation in Messages, click on the persons icon at the top middle, click on the info button, then I have the choices "Hide Alerts" or "Send Read Receipts"
When I chose Send Receipts, it will send the read receipts, unfortunately, if I close the conversation and start a new one, that setting resets itself.
