Split screen while reading texts horizontally

How do I get rid of the split screen on my iPhone 11 Max Pro while reading messages with the phone in the horizontal position. It’s very annoying to me, and the solution suggestions (from 2017) are not working for me. Please help me if you can. Meanwhile I will be continuing to try to figure this out by myself.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer this question. ~ Tina

Thanks Alex. I want to get rid of the right side if the split screen so I only see the message I’m reading, not all the other messages I have that it shows me on the left half.

I want it to look like it does when I read my messages in the vertical position. Only the message I’m reading show up.

the reason for turning the phone sideways is so a message can be read in a more spacious area. That is not what happening. Instead I get that split screen which I do not like at all. If I want to see the list of other messages, I want to go back to it with the back arrow the same way I do when holding the phone vertically.

Not sure what you meant by split screen when using the Messages app in the horizontal mode. The Messages screen in the horizontal mode has two columns. The left column has all the contacts and the right column has all the tests from a selected contact.

There is no setting to change that. What exactly are you looking to set the Messages app to?
