red battery icon although charged
My battery on my new iPhone wouldn’t charge so I used another’s persons charger. Although half charged it remains red

Based on what you mentioned, you need a new charger for your iPhone, but there is also an issue with how much it charged. This could be related to battery optimization feature. Learn more about About Optimized Battery Charging on your iPhone.
If this is not toggled on, check your battery health. To do this, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health. You'll see some suggestions and help with this here: About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
If your battery is below 80% capacity, you may be able to get help were you are when you Contact Apple for support and service. You may also want to ask about service for your charging components.
