Why does Mail randomly delete all content from mail messages?

Does anyone else have this issue? I am using a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) and have Catalina up to date on it (version 10.15.6 (19G2021)).

I use the Apple Mail app for my 2 email addresses. ON a regular basis (eg once every couple of days), emails in the Inbox on my Apple Mac will suddenly change to say "this message has no content". This is despite perhaps the day before them ail having all its content there! Why does this happen? It is more than just annoying - you could be using vital information because one day, the laptop just decides not to display the information anymore. Apple better have a fix for this please.

The emails are also on my iPhone. Fortunately they do not seem to disappear. So like tonight, for an email I know I read earlier today with all the information there on the laptop, I had to get it again from my iPhone and forward it to my laptop Mail platform. I should not have to do this.

Pics showing what happens when you open the "blank" email.

Comments please.

Hi,

I have a very similar issue, most probably since upgrading to Catalina - took me some time to realize though.

Emails seem to appear normal in general when being received, however, when they are moved into local folders in Apple Mail AND have an attachment of any sort, everything but the title becomes blank and is lost immediately and permanently.

Does anybody have the same issue and knows how to fix it?

Thanks!

David.

Hello Mikey18barker,

It sounds like your Mac Mail app is bringing up blank messages when they have content in it. Did you start noticing this behavior recently after a software update?

Does it happen to both mail accounts or just one of the accounts?

If you haven't already, you can try to open Mail > Mailbox > Rebuild and restart the device to see if the behavior improves.

Hope this helps!

Hi raina_b22

Thanks for your message and help. I think it has been doing it for last few months. I am sure I have had more than 1 software update since then so would guess it is not directly related to that (unless each software over that time has this bug in it).

I have only just put my 2nd email account (a Gmail account) onto the Mail app. It has not done the blank message thing in the Gmail account but as I say that is a recent addition. The "problem" account is a private email addres provider ie not a Gmail, Hotmail, iCloud well known type of account. That might be an epxlanation. But even so, any Mail platform app should work to retrieve messages right!

I will try the Mail rebuild suggestion.
