Why are edited photos going soft in Photos app.?

I have imported raw and jpeg images into Photos app and edited them, then they go soft. When I revert to original they get sharp again. This happens with only a small adjustment. The raw images go soft then become a flat grey image. I have used the library repair tool and it did not solve the problem. I am using mac.os Catalina.10.15.5

Edited pictures in Photos turn black After importing pictures from iPad and iPhon to iMac (Big Sur) and attempting to auto-enhance the pictures, they turn black. Have deleted the .plist as per another discussion thread and photos still turn black. Rebuilt the photos library as recommended in another discussion thread and now they turn green when I use auto-enhance. Upon trying to edit, none of the functions seem to work.

RAW Files Thumbnails and big photo missing after edit I found another question with this problem and actually found a workaround but the other question's closed, so I'll post it in a separate thread. The problem occurs when you edit an imported RAW file from your camera into Photos for Mac and then edit that photo (adjust brightness, contrast, sharpening and so on). If you do this to a bunch of photos and then go back to the gallery, the thumbnails are gone and so is the big version of the photo (double click on the thumbnail). The only thing that brings the photo back is to edit it again and revert the changes. However, I found out that when you edit the photo, apply the changes and then go back to the thumbnail view before editing another one the thumbnails are there and so is the big photo. My guess is that the adjustments are only applied to the photo when you go back to the thumbnail view first. So, again - don't just swipe to the next photo and do your edits there, your photos will be gone. Go back to the thumbnail view first, let photos do it's work and you'll have your edited photos in your gallery. Hope this helps someone... @Apple: a bugfix would be nice ;)

Could you provide screenshots of what is happening?

Could you also describe what your "small adjustment" is?

Lastly, what format are the RAW images? RAW is actually a general term that simply indicates that the file is the unedited output from the camera sensor without various software filters applied to sharpen, reduce noise and adjust the exposure that most digital cameras perform. Each camera manufacturer has their own RAW formats so knowing the camera make and model or RAW format would let us help you determine if it's a supported format.

Thank you very much for your reply. After hours of trying to fix the problem I had to walk away to do other things. I tried again unsuccessfully then the issue just stopped when I opened up the application a few days later.
