44.1 KHz sampling rate on the AppleTV not upsampled to 48 KHz

I keep my original 1st Generation AppleTV (silver) because it still has 44.1 KHz audio sampling. I use it now primarily to be a server for my collection of DTS 5.1 Surround Sound recordings, which I transcode to Apple Lossless, use iTunes to sync to the AppleTV1 and then play through the digital audio output to my surround sound home theater.

Starting with the AppleTV version 2, everything was sent out as 48 KHz audio.

I was hoping that the latest version of the 4K AppleTV would now support 44.1 again.

Any information available?
