Trying to download macOS High Sierra from the App Store (to wipe and reinstall macOS on an old MacBook Air), following the link from:

I get an error when downloading - "Update not found - The requested version of macOS is not available."

Unfortunately if you try on a mac running Catalina you cannot download High Sierra.
The App Store recognises that you are running Catalina and thinks it is doing you
a favour by not allowing you to download High Sierra or any older OS.
It does not take into account that you might just be wanting download it
to install on another Mac. Very stupid of Apple.

It is available, open your Safari browser, do not use Firefox and click on the link below,
How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support
Go to Section 4 and click on Get macOS High Sierra
this will redirect you to the App Store High Sierra download page.
It should say Get or Open.
Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.
Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.
Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.
Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.
Do not use your mac while it is downloading
and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.
If the App Store says ‘Open’ then it is detecting a previous download of the install app
go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS High Sierra.app.
Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.
Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.
From Safari when I go to Section 4 and click on Get macOS High Sierra it redirects me to the App Store were I see Mac OS High Sierra. When I click on Get, I get the error "Update not found. The request version of macOS is not available."

If you get a corrupted message...
Naw, not damaged, it's just that you have an old copy already in Applications...
Trash the Install MacsOS High Sierra.app in Applications then a new copy more recent version can be downloaded.
I have exactly the same issue.
I have a brand new iMac with latest Catalina updates and want to create an external disk with High Sierra for my old iMac that has problems with its HDD. I have followed all the instructions, got to the App Store page and pushed Get button for the SW and the message appears: "The requested version of macOS is not available."
Is it something with having Catalina not allowing to "update" an older OSX? How to proceed?
Just to clarify, you can't download High Sierra to a Mac that shipped with Catalina.
Open in Safari. The link does not work from Firefox.
So I attempted to open via Safari. The App Store opens but says that the application is damaged.
