How to change album cover on Apple Music

I tried deleting a album here and there and re-syncing, in some cases also restarting. It works for some albums but not everyone.

Decided to try deleting all music from iPhone again, restart both MacBook and iPhone then Re sync. I looks like most of the albums have the correct Cover Art. But not all.

What it very odd now is that at least some of the albums (purchased from iTunes ) that have the wrong cover art have pictures that are from either my phone or MacBook (not sure were they reside). Pictures I’ve taken of local bands ( not ones I’m using for Cover Art for other albums).

Not sure I’m up for another round of delete and Re sync and guess if more will be fixed or it will get worse.

Hopefully at some point Apple will get this fixed.

Finally ended up reinstalling proper album covers via "Get Info".

iOS 15 fixed this for me, re-matched all covers and put back missing songs.

Same issue here. I just got the iPhone 12 Pro and after syncing it there are a ton of albums showing the wrong artwork - including a lot of albums that were purchased directly from iTunes previously. Artwork is still displaying correctly within iTunes on my Mac, but it's a mess on my phone.

iPhone 12 Pro Max, all my music was messed up after transferring from iPhone X, and some missing.

At first the album art looked ok, but I had a number of songs greyed out saying not available in my region/country just after the iPhone to iPhone transfer. Synced to my mac, hoping that would straighten things out, and but even more songs were greyed with the issue. And some of these songs were original music by friends bands so should not be. Restarted phone and sync'd again, and songs were now duplicated with one version greyed one version working. And a number of songs with the wrong Album Art.

Deleted all music from my phone and resync'd that eliminated the duplicates and all the greyed out songs as far as I've noticed.

But almost all the Album Art is now totally mixed up regardless if it's music ripped from CD's from years ago, music purchased from iTunes over the years, or original music i set the Album Art for. Everything is still correct on my MacBook Air.

I don't know if this will help, but this is what I noticed:

The altered artwork issue appears to only present on the PLAYLISTS. If you look at ALBUMS and look at SONGS, they still have the artwork that had been previously assigned to them.

Next experiment: on my iphone, I created a NEW playlist and populated it from songs already on the iphone (in my case, the SONG artwork is fine -- the jumble is only on the PLAYLIST artwork).

The artwork persisted and looked normal.

I performed a sync or two and the artwork of the playlist I had phone-created remained perfectly normal.

Then I tried syncing back in a couple playlists from iTunes and those playlist images were all cocked up. Arg.

ITunes is replaced by Music on the Mac. But it still has the same issue when syncing to the iPhone. I’ve deleted my music twice from the iPhone and then synced it back. It’s gotten better, but still messed up on some albums. And my Mac has the newer Music software instead of iTunes.

I have discovered more information since I posted this. I have lots of music on my phone that isn't available online and so I continue to RIP CDs and move them to my phone. I just got a new CD and copied and pasted the cover into the album artwork on the computer as I have previously. If I try to transfer it to my iPhone 12 Mini via Apple Music, the cover art picks up a random selection from my other cover art. If I use the finder to drag the music onto the phone instead of Apple Music, it doesn't apply a random cover, it just shows no artwork at all. I actually prefer this to having the wrong cover associated. I also am using my old iPhone 7 as a music player so I used Apple Music on my computer (running Catalina) to transfer the new CD to my iPhone 7 running 14.2 and the cover art transfers properly. So, it seems to be something with the newer iPhones rather than Apple Music itself or the iOS. Not sure if this is helpful, but it is more troubleshooting info.

Okay, I see what you are doing, but need to clarify something.

First, when you uncheck "sync music" it will delete all music form the iPhone. I'm okay with that, in fact this is how I solved the problem many iOS's ago.

Second, please clarify whether in your fix you select sync "entire music library" or do you choose "selected albums/genres/playlists" which means you need to manually select everything from the list below that.

I've got lots and lots of music and would require a stiff espresso or two to manually select everything. If would also seem that if this method of selecting individually is the solution, one might need to make selections under each tab for album, artist genre etc as well for them to come over.

What has been your experience?

Same here. New iPhone 12Pro and all of the songs on the phone are doubled with the wrong artwork, but are fine on the Mac.

My concern is that this problem will re-appear in the future because it is clearly a bug.

Ahhhh. You left out a step! You go to Settings > GENERAL> iPhone Storage. Important distinction.
