Screen Time proxy slows internet

Hello!

When I turn on Screen Time and then turn on "Content & Privacy Restrictions," I see the following process appear in my Activity Monitor:

webfilterproxyd

At that point, internet begins to lag and I can't even run a speed test on speedtest.net. It just hangs.

If I turn off Screen Time, the process doesn't go away. If I "Force Quit" on the process, it comes right back, even if Screen Time is turned off. I have to restart the Mac to get it to go away and stay away.

I'm running Catalina 10.15.6 on MacBook Pro Mid 2014.

Any suggestions would very appreciated.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

Hi Drrichardb,

It sounds like you are needing some assistance in isolating the reason behind your internet is slowing.

We recommend you create a new user and use safe mode to attempt to start to isolate the issue.

Please use this resource for guidance on how to: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Specifically the section that states: "To learn whether software in your user account is causing the issue, set up a new user account, then log in to it and try to reproduce the issue in that account."

Please refer to this resource for more information how to: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac
