No sound in Safari, but works fine in Chrome...tried everything.

I have tried everything I know to fix this.

  1. Checked for the little speakers in the location bar in Safari
  2. Checked Safari preferences and auto-play
  3. Checked output on the Mac in Preferences
  4. Reset the PRAM
  5. Reset the SMC
  6. Reinstalled Mac OS Catalina

NOTHING has worked. Sound works in every other program...I use Final Cut Pro, Camtasia, iTunes, and it works fine in Chrome. This seems to be isolated to Safari.

It started the problem a few days ago when my computer had too many processor-intensive apps running...it slowed to a crawl, I couldn't shut down any applications, had difficulty using force quit. I have about 700GB available on my 2TB SSD drive on a MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar (2018, I believe).

I need help desperately. I much prefer Safari because of the password function.

Many thanks!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15
