Clean My Mac X " can't be opened. What happened?

While working on a simple file, I noticed that my iMac was overworking to the point that I could hear it pushing out air. I had heard that Google Chrome was infiltrating operating systems so that is what I thought was happening. I removed Chrome as my main browser and transferred all to Safari. When I turned on m Ma today, I got the message that the application CleanMY Mac had a virus and could not be opened. I ran my Antivirus software AVG and it did not find any issues. I rebooted but the problem has persisted. I need my Clean My Mac to work.

Is something else going on? I checked preferences and the application is checked where I looked. I think there was a system upgrade recently, could this be the reason?

The helpful advice indicating the Virus Chest of Avast as requesting elements of CMM is appreciated. Some of us who are using our Macs to access government computers via VPN are required to use Avast or similar antivirals, regardless of our personal feelings. When Avast does something that we did not suspect, the advice given on this page is very much appreciated.

I believe I very specifically told the gentleman how to resolve the CMM/Avast problem and then expressed my experience w/ CMM which has been good - so your point is what? Are you saying because somebody doesn't like CMM we should trash it, but because I do we should jump all over me? Seems a little off don't you think.

So bottom line tell all the people that have had trouble w/ CMM how to fix if you know and if you don't shut up!

As to AVAST/AVG I use Avast bc on my laptop which is just used for recreational usage bc it is free and fits minimum requirements as far as I am concerned, and since it is my computer I am the only one that matters!

I happen to own a top line iMac I use for all my personal business and such and it has the top of the line Norton protection, if that bothers people bc they think it is a waste of money/time whatever that is their problem. I have been working on/with computers since 1980, build 'em, repair 'em, update 'em and the list goes on and never seen one yet that could not have an issue from outside attack. Admittedly I use Macs bc I feel they are more secure than the Windows world, but they aren't perfect.

Now can we please leave this alone?"

Did I jump all over you or did I ask a question?

It is blatant misinformation in yours and Apple's opinions. While you may be right, you may not be right. My opinion is that ANY computer system is subject to intrusions if they are connected to internet. While I completely agree that Apple by far has the best built in safe guards and "gate keeping" features (main reason I use Macs) it like all other things in this world is not perfect! So you can send me 5000 posts/replies telling me how I am "harming" the Apple world bc of software I have "researched" and elect to use and it is not going to change my opinion so I would appreciate it if you don't!

One other point, if all this software is useless and "harmful" to Mac OS why does Apple not configure OS so the software cannot be installed - they could do that you know!

I say this with all due respect and without judgment one way or another on the views recently posted, but would those of you involved in these arguments consider taking them offline? The flurry of recent comments neither further the conversation nor solve the OP's issue, and I for one do not want to have this kind of unnecessary negativity in my feed. Thank you.

That would be an excellent idea; unfortunately none of us can. These forums are not a feed - they are online open forums accessible to anyone having signed up for an account. We are all anonymous and not allowed to share any personal information. So, the only way to communicate is by posting.

You cannot control who or what is said in an open forums since anyone can post (unless it violates the ToU).

The hosts used to eliminate “off topic” posts, but the different opinions here really do not fall into that category, so remarks would only be removed if they violated the ToU.
