Stuck with layout rectangle

I have a Pages document with two layout blocks that cannot be resized. The top one especially, is very narrow, extending from 2.5cm (on the left) to 13.4cm (on the right). The document itself is 21 cm wide and has 1 cm margins.

There is no way I can push my text further right than 13.4 cm.

I have this very small Pages document exhibiting the issues, which I will

The document was originally imported from a .docx file. This may explain how the problem cam to happen. It doesn't explain why Pages now has a layout structure that's completely impossible to edit by the user.

I may miss something, but I just spent 1 hour on the phone sharing my screen with a level 2 support person, who failed to help, and basically advised me to use MS Word.

URL of this writable document:

In case of vandalism, I put a read only version of this document at:

Hi, welcome to the Apple Users Community.

I did manage to change the layout to fit your parameters but only by creating another text box and moving into position and resizing to the page width, then cutting and pasting the text from the uneditable box.

I get a feeling it is locked at a specific size from MS Word due to the layout size it was created at. Was it the default text box from Word?

Hope this helps

Hello again,

It is definitely something to do with that specific text box when it was made in Word. If you duplicate the page using the Page Thumbnails on the left of the app window, the page margins operate exactly as expected and the type all conforms to the page margins.

Also if you export to Word and open the file, that text box has very specific margin setup that can be edited to 1/4" or 1cm left and right margins. It is just not editable in Pages for some reason unknown.

If this was part of a smaller document initially and then the page was increased later, this is most likely the default text box from the creation of the file. It seems it is fixable though using the options I shared.

Best of luck
