Cleaning the mac screen

THE ANSWER. I have always been obsessive about keeping my imac screens clean and in pristine condition. But for years, I'd never been able to clean any mac screen without leaving smudges, the kind that show up clearly when the sun shines on the screen. After 30+ years, and every kind of microfiber cloth, and most every kind of safe screen cleaner marketed, I found the answer.

First, you should know that your mac screen naturally accumulates dirt, dust, and oils. You might not notice just how much it accumulates. A commercial screen cleaner (even those marketed specifically for computer screens) has to cut through a basically greasy, dirty surface to do its job. When you use a microfiber cloth (recommended) with a screen cleaner, you are moving around dust and grease without cutting through it. And moving dust, dirt, and grease around your screen with any kind of cloth can be damaging to the screen surface. And it fails to go the job.

So, here's how to safely get your screen looking like new...and without streaks!

You can do this with a single, clean microfiber cloth.

1. Soak a section of a clean microfiber cloth with tap water and add a couple of small drops of Dawn, or Palmolive, or any dish detergent. Squeeze out the excess water (but keep it damp!). Now, gently apply it to the screen in circular motions. Here's where you cut through dirt, dust, and especially accumulated grease.

2. Take another section of the cloth, run it under the tap, and then squeeze it out gently; but make sure it's still quite damp. You'll use this section to remove the detergent, oil, and dirt. Again, use small circular motions.

3. Finally, using only the dry part of the cloth, go over the screen in gentle, circular motions until it's visibly clean and shiny.

The result might shock you. Your screen will be as good as new, undamaged, bright and clean, with no oil and dirt smudges.
