Hi, I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015). I want to connect an external screen. Which adaptor do I need?

That port that you thought was a HDMI port is actually a Display Port.
You have a Thunderbolt 2 (MiniDisplay Port) on your MacBook Air and a Display Port on your Extended Display (Based on your first image)
What you need is a ➔ Thunderbolt 2 (MiniDisplay Port) to Display Port cable

Sorry - I’m so confused. It’s a Lenovo monitor and the connections look like this - I thought one was hdmi but it doesn’t fit into an HDMI socket on a connector I bought.
You have not told us about one critical piece of information and that is which ports are available to connect on your External Monitor?
