I understand that you want to transfer some 400 contacts from your Old Apple ID to a New Apple ID. We shall use iCloud.com to accomplish that. Follow these steps:

  1. On your iPhone, with your old Apple ID (with the 400 contacts). Goto Settings > (Your Name - Apple ID) (the very first option) > iCloud and Toggle ON Contacts
  2. On your laptop browser, goto www.icloud.com
  3. Sign in using your old Apple ID
  4. Select Contacts
  5. On your keyboard, use Shift or Ctrl to select the contacts you want to transfer. (If you intend to export all contacts, click the gear icon and choose Select All). Then click the gear icon and choose Export vCard ... This will export the contacts from your iPhone to vCard, which will be saved as the .vcf file.
  6. Sign out of iCloud.com
  7. Again, repeat steps 2, 3, 4 but this time sign-in with your new Apple ID.
  8. Click the gear icon and choose Import vCard ... Select the .vcf file you created in step 5. This will import all the contacts from your old Apple ID into your new one.
  9. On your iPhone (iDevice) with the new Apple ID, repeat step 1. This will sync contacts from iCloud to your iPhone (iDevice).

Not at all helpful! What I'm trying to do is create a new joint Apple ID which both my wife and I can ascribe to and use on our desktop, laptop, phones and iPad. This is simple enough - the problem comes when trying to copy all our existing Contacts en bloc to this new ID in iCloud - rather than having to do them one by one (nearly 400 contacts)
