All camera luts dissapeared in FCPX 10.4.9

I'm coming to the end of a feature film edit 4 months work with a two and half hour time line and I've (foolishly?) upgraded to 10.4.9.

I'm working in proxies on a small 2Tb ssd and all my camera luts have gone from the 7000 files and there is no camera lut menu item in the Inspector to add them back

Still nothing if I revert back to original files.

Help please!

Same problem here w C300 MKII footage. For the LUTs to show you have to have the original media connected. This has changed from before where you didn't need the original media connected to show LUTs on proxies.

When opening a library in proxy mode without the original connected it isn't enough to just connect the original to get the LUTs back. You have to close and re-open the library with the original media connected.

Hope this will be fixed because it takes away a major possibility of the proxy workflow.

It might need a new driver from Canon as there are reports from other MXF footage behaving strangely after the update.

This is the first Final Cut update where I have the feeling what is theoretically an advancement comes with a big 'gotcha'. Hopefully I'm wrong and it can be fixed.

It is strange and I'm surprised too that Apple made that change.

One option for you to get your project done might be to apply the LUT via the Custom LUT effect from the effects browser.

Just add the Custom LUT to one clip, set the LUT to the one you want, then copy and paste only the LUT effect to all instances where you need it. You can also decide in which processing order you want the Custom LUT applied, before or after you colour corrections.

If you apply the LUTs to the originals in FCP and send the clips to the Compressor to create proxies, the LUTs will get burned in. You don't have to apply the LUTs in Compressor.

When you relink to the Compressor proxies, these proxies have the Camera LUT appearing in the inspector while the originals are there, so you want to turn them all off or the media has the LUT applied twice.

Or the other way around, don't apply the LUTs to the originals, send them to Compressor, and apply the LUTs there.

Thanks Tom, much appreciated. And totally agree that Log footage without the LUT are are not a good version to work with.

I also understand your workflow suggestion but I think it’s not a good change, and somehow it doesn’t make sense. I can’t see the rational why to remove the LUT setting from the Proxy?

Thanks Tom. The problem is that the camera LUT metadata entry in the inspector completely disappears when the original media is offline. So you can’t decide wether you want the LUT on or off, the choice has literally disappeared. It reappears when you connect the original media and correctly remembers the LUT setting you last chose for the original.

It is a problem that not only exist in an updated Library, but also a new Library. So something has changed the way FCP handles the LUT workflow. Or it is a bug that only appears is certain installations like Phil’s and mine.
