Locked iPad found in trash

I found this iPad discarded in a trash pile. Is there anyway to return it to the original owner, from whom it was probably stolen??

If you have a cable and charger, put it on charge and try to turn it on. If the person enabled Find My and Lost Mode, you may see a message from the owner display a contact number.

This is what the owner may did: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen

Hope this helps and solves your question. Do not hesitate to ask if you need more information.

Some suggestions:

  • Charge the iPad so that it doesn't run out of battery.
  • See if it will connect to the internet WiFi/Data.
  • Maybe the owner has activated "Lost Mode" on his iPad. If so, you may see a message on the iPad (providing you some contact info of the owner)
  • Ask Siri "Who owns this iPad?"---Should give you the name stored in the owner's contact entry. Use Siri on all your Apple devices - Apple Support
  • Launch the camera app on the iPad Take photos with the camera on iPad - Apple Support and take a photo of your contact info (name & telephone #). If the owner of the iPad has activated iCloud Photos on his iPad, he may be able to view this photo on his other device and acquire your contact info, enabling him/her to reach out to you.
  • Take the iPad to the authorities, to the police station that's nearest to where you found it.

Kathy: Nice job.

Question for the community:

Based on my own reading of:

https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201472

This iPad is showing indications that:

1) FindMe was set by the owner

2) It was “Erased” remotely thru FindMe

3) It has not yet been deleted from the owner’s account.

Am I misinterpreting something; or are there other possibilities.
