Restoring iMessages from a week old backup

Hello, last night I somehow lost an important iMessage thread (all but the latest message). I noticed it about 10pm on my ipad and of course it was going from my iphone and mac.

I disabled icloud backup on both iphone and ipad and then proceeded to try restore an ipad backup from a week ago. Whenever I do that the imessage thread is still all gone!

Not sure if this is icloud messages resyncing that the thread should be deleted??

If i keep this older ipad backup should it contain these old imessage messages?? I really don't want to lose them. Thanks
