Offline music on mac: how is this supposed to work?

Hi everyone.

I know this topic has been brought here multiple times but I haven't seen a solution, so maybe someone found a nice workaround in the meantime. Appreciate any help.

The case: I'm on latest Catalina and macbook pro and I have apple music family subscription. What I try to do is simple: I want to listen to albums offline. I'm logged in, I download tracks / albums, I go offline and bang...

Not able to play them as I'm not logged in to apple music. Of course I'm not, I am offline. So how is this thing suppose to work?


Just to clarify... I'm done with signing in and out, refreshing cloud library, removing and adding downloads, de- and authorizing a mac. None of them work reliably (or mostly not at all). I don't see such problems on android app, so why so complicated here?

It sounds like you are having some issues playing Apple Music offline. We can help get you pointed in the right direction for support.


Do you have multiple user accounts set up on your Mac? If so, does this same issue happen in every account? If not, there may be permissions for your account that are preventing this feature from working and we'd recommend reviewing your System Preferences.
