saving photos attached to message into iCloud

I receive numerous photos attached to messages. I want to save the photos into my icloud account. How do I accomplish this so they do not take up space in my phone's storage?

Can I delete large messages conversations off of iCloud but keep them on my phone? I have the standard 5GB of iCloud storage however it's always full due to the large amount of data (photos) shared via messages. I would like to keep these photos in messages but delete them off of the iCloud server to free up space. How do I access my photos on iCloud? How do I access my photos on iCloud. I have an IPhone sx max. I have 4 email accounts linked to my phone. When I logged into iCloud.com, there are only 5 messages on iCloud. Have my back up photos on. Shouldn’t I be able to see messages backed up? if I deleted messages after iCloud backed it up, will it not be available on iCloud? iCloud stored messages I can't see on iCloud.com & photos sneaking into iCloud from my iPhone? On my iPhone I keep getting iCloud messages, saying I am almost out of space & to buy space from Apple. My iPhone Settings>iCloud Storage says I have lots of photos & messages in iCloud. But on iCloud.com, I see no messages & can't tell how seemingly sporadic photos are being uploaded from the iPhone when no iCloud backup for photos is set. Is there any way I can find on iCloud.com where messages or photos are being uploaded from & how can I delete them from iCloud, if they even exist? If I delete the photos on iCloud.com, would it delete them from my iPhone if no iCloud backups are set to occur?

To save the photos within those messages, simply tap on the photo and you should see a mini-menu that gives you the option to save it. However, if you're saving it to your iCloud, this will not only take up space in your iCloud but also on your device as well. In order to save space on your device, be sure to use the Optimize Phone Storage feature under Settings > Name > iCloud > Photos.
