iphone 8 microphone problems - still not solved?

Hello folks - was reading on this older thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8086732?page=4

about iphone 8 microphone issues (only when on a call and using the iphone mic directly. Speakerphone microphone and all types of earbuds work just fine. I can always hear others just fine - they just can't hear me. Depth of problem seems to vary by how I'm holding the phone - sometimes it's almost okay, but as soon as I turn my head or move the phone against my head even less than a millimeter it goes bad.

Any fix or acknowledgement by Apple that this is clearly not a one-off issue?

Yes I'm aware of all the steps. None of those make a difference. And I'm aware of how to get the phone repaired...

I've actually had this problem for a long time - given the phone is a few years old. For the longest time I thought it was just me and the way I was holding the phone incorrectly or something. I have since read that this seems to be a rampant problem, and I was wondering if Apple has recognized this as a common issue and what they are doing about it.

As you can imagine, it's not a good feeling to have to pay for a repair when there is an issue trending among so many people. Clearly there is something wrong with many iPhone 8's regarding this particular issue.
