Unable to add apple ID email as iMessage send/receive address

I got a new iPhone and am trying to add my email/Apple ID as the address for send/receive messages, however I am unable to get the option to sign into the ID on the settings. Until I get a new phone number can anyone help what may be the issue and how to add my email as the iMessage address?

From our understanding, you received a new iPhone, but you’re unable to sign in to iMessages fully. We’d be happy to take a look!


If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime - Apple Support can help if you’re unable to sign to iMessage. If you’re unable to complete that process, Contact Apple Support for additional assistance.
