Safari stops responding on Fox News website?

I have a MacBook Air withMacOS Catalina Version 10.15.6 and Safari Version 14.0 (15610.1.28.1.9, 15610)

Whenever I am on the Fox News Website Safari stops responding after about 10-15 seconds over and over again. Eventually I have to Quit(or sometimes even Force Quit Safari) and stop trying to go to Fox News. This is the only website this happens on. I have used Safari and Fox News for years with no problems whatsoever but it has been Wonkey for the past couple of weeks. Maybe it's the Fox News Privete Browsing crap they just threw out there to stop the Riff-Raff(like me) from using their precious Website. The funny thing thing I am not even a Wac-a-Doodle Democrat or Left Winger or Marxist or Communist or Anarchist. It looks like slow Joe Biden and his Friends/PuppetMasters are about to flush the 'Once-Proud, Honorable, and Sane Democratic Party down the old S__tter into the Sewage Treatment Plant of History. Oh Well. I guess that's what a Good(?) College education will to to you these days!

I am having the same issued with Fox News.co on my MacBook Air with Mac OSCatalina 10.15.7 and Safari 14.0. I updated to the latest software hoping that the issue would be cleared up but still the same freezing up. I hope someone at Apple hasn’t placed a bug just for Fox News as this is the only website like the prior complaint states..I have the same issue. Do not know what else to do. Please advise

I had the same issue and tried the post from someone that recommended to go to Fox News on Safari on my MacBook Air and then......Safari->Preferences->Websites

If you have an entry for Foxnews set it to "Allow All Auto Play"

“Auto-Play” set to ”Stop media with sound” fixed it! This did fix the issue. Thanks for the work around but still it is an Apple issue.

Apple needs to find out who allowed this bug to affect Fox News website and not the other websites. Could be an intentional issue to harass Fox News website users by some BIASED Apple software employee ? :(

That’s a disturbing thought but the most likely explanation that makes sense. Targeted victims can’t do much about it, especially since we have no clear cut evidence. Anyone interested in going through the webpage source code to get clues? Or how about a letter to Tim at Apple?

Thank you for this solution. When I checked this preference setting, all of the other websites I had open were set to "Stop Media With Sound". I set Fox News to "Stop Media With Sound" and that worked for me.

Setting to allow autoplay used to work for me, but it quit working even with that setting. Today, Oct. 18, 2020, I'm searching for more help for the same problem. Safari is still freezing. I'm on High Sierra with the latest Safari.

It's baaaack... Same experience... turning ON AutoPlay worked for a few weeks, and now it looks like we're back to the original problem - again. Apparently, either Apple either changed something (in Safari) or Fox News changed their website. Arggggh. If anyone finds another workaround, let us know.

I was having this issue also. I am on macOS Catalina 10.15.17.

I have my settings for foxnews.com and foxbusiness.com as allow popups... and for autoplay Stop Media with Sound.... and that is the cure for me and it is still working.

If it freezes I wait a few seconds and it clears up. Hope this helps :)

Glad it helped :) as it is working for me...if it freezes still after.... making the settings for foxnews.com and foxbusiness.com TO allow popups... and for autoplay TO Stop Media with Sound.. then I just wait about 5 to man 10 seconds and it resolves the delay.

Open up Fox News, Go to Safari, Preferences, Go to Autoplay, then click to automatically start Fox News.

This was the most helpful post I could find because it fixed my issues related to slow and disjointed loaded of the app. I am glad to get this fixed. It was very annoying!!!!!!

Hey, I was having this problem too but only on Fox News site. This fixed it for me too, thanks! It was driving me bonkers. Not so much about their content (*ahem*) but simply wondering why it was doing this.

I may have had some luck muting the browser tab. There's a little "speaker" icon that appears to the right of the Safari tab (for Fox News - I keep it open all the time), which has options to Mute/Unmute and change Auto-Play. I leave Auto-Play set to, "Allow All Auto-Play" (which addresses the problem of the page "freezing") but Mute the tab. So even though videos may play, the sound track is suppressed - no "unpleasant" surprises with sound blasting from nowhere! Granted, this is anecdotal, but like I say, I seem to have had some success with this. YMMV, of course.

Hmmm... so far, this seems to be working reliably for me (muting sound on the Fox News Safari tab). The videos play, but without sound. If for some reason I want to hear the sound, I can temporarily unmute the tab.

So far, so good. Don't know why that would have ever changed for me, but thanks...it's working now.
