Apple Pencil metal Tip not working. Metal tip slides out, firmly goes back into place, but it doesn’t work...

This piece feels like its designed to come in and out, once its aligned correctly it slides back into the pencil and snaps into place. But it no longer works.

My son had this for less than a minute and pulled it out. He’s 3...fingers not that strong....dont see how he could have done damage to this thing. What can I do?
